The Kingdom of Heaven

What is the Kingdom of Heaven?
Matthew 5:1-3 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain:
and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
If someone is very spirited, they are typically forceful
and get their way a lot and always have their way. God must
always be in control. He has given us guidelines in His Word
and instruction to teach us His ways, which are the best
ways. This is tied in with obedience and the willingness to
be corrected by and learn from the Word of God.
Matthew 5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for
righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven.
Matthew 5:13-20 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the
salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted?
it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out,
and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light
of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot
be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under
a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto
all that are in the house. Let your light so shine
before men, that they may see your good works, and
glorify your Father which is in heaven. Think not
that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am
not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say
unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one
tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be
fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of
these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he
shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven:
but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall
be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For
I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall
exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees,
ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
This passage seems to speak of the kingdom of heaven
being a future time. This would imply the kingdom of heaven
being after the
first resurrection.
Matthew 11:11-19 Verily I say unto you,
Among them that are
born of women there hath not risen a greater than John
the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. And
from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the
violent take it by force. For all the prophets and
the law prophesied until John. And if ye will receive
it, this is Elias, which was for to come.
He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. But
whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto
children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their
fellows, And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have
not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not
lamented. For John came neither eating nor drinking, and
they say, He hath a devil. The Son of man came eating
and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and
a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But
wisdom is justified of her children.
Matthew 13:3-23 And he spake many things unto them in parables,
saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; And when he
sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls
came and devoured them up: Some fell upon stony places,
where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung
up, because they had no deepness of earth: And when the
sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no
root, they withered away. And some fell among thorns;
and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: But other
fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an
hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. Who hath
ears to hear, let him hear. And the disciples came, and
said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
He answered and said unto them, Because it is given
unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of
heaven, but to them it is not given. For
whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have
more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall
be taken away even that he hath. Therefore speak I to
them in parables: because they seeing see not; and
hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. And
in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith,
By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand;
and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: For
this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are
dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest
at any time they should see with their eyes and hear
with their ears, and should understand with their heart,
and should be converted, and I should heal them. But
blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for
they hear. For verily I say unto you, That many prophets
and righteous men have desired to see those things which
ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things
which ye hear, and have not heard them. Hear ye
therefore the parable of the sower. When any one
heareth the word of the kingdom, and
understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and
catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is
he which received seed by the way side. But he that
received the seed into stony places, the same is he that
heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; Yet
hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for
when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the
word, by and by he is offended. He also that received
seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and
the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches,
choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. But he
that received seed into the good ground is he that
heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also
beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold,
some sixty, some thirty.
The mysteries of the kingdom of heaven are related to the
parable Christ was telling. The parable referred to the time
of the sowing of the seed, the Word of God, the Gospel of
the kingdom. Not only did Yeshua die on the cross for our
sins and be resurrected 3 days later, but He is going to
come back on a timeline written in His Word. This is he that
understands it. It's culmination is in Bible prophecy, when
the time of sowing is over and the King will arrive to take
the kingdoms of the earth forever. Amen!
Matthew 13:24-30 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying,
The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed
good seed in his field: But while men slept, his enemy
came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth
fruit, then appeared the tares also. So the servants of
the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not
thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath
it tares? He said unto them, An enemy hath done this.
The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go
and gather them up? But he said, Nay; lest while ye
gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with
them. Let both grow together until the harvest: and in
the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye
together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to
burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.
Matthew 24:31,32 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying,
The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard
seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: Which
indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown,
it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so
that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches
thereof.
Matthew 24:33-35 Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom
of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and
hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was
leavened. All these things spake Jesus unto the
multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he
not unto them: That it might be fulfilled which was
spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in
parables; I will utter things which have been kept
secret from the foundation of the world.
Matthew 24:36-43 Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and
went into the house: and his disciples came unto
him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the
tares of the field. He answered and said unto
them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of
man; The field is the world; the good seed are
the children of the kingdom; but the tares are
the children of the wicked one; The enemy that
sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end
of the world; and the reapers are the angels. As
therefore the tares are gathered and burned in
the fire; so shall it be in the end of this
world. The Son of man shall send forth his
angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom
all things that offend, and them which do
iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of
fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of
teeth. Then shall the righteous shine forth as
the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath
ears to hear, let him hear.
Matthew 24:44-53 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like
unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a
man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof
goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth
that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like
unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Who,
when he had found one pearl of great price, went
and sold all that he had, and bought it. Again,
the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that
was cast into the sea, and gathered of every
kind: Which, when it was full, they drew to
shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into
vessels, but cast the bad away. So shall it be
at the end of the world: the angels shall come
forth, and sever the wicked from among the just,
And shall cast them into the furnace of fire:
there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Jesus saith unto them, Have ye understood all
these things? They say unto him, Yea, Lord. Then
said he unto them, Therefore every scribe which
is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like
unto a man that is an householder, which
bringeth forth out of his treasure things new
and old. And it came to pass, that when Jesus
had finished these parables, he departed thence.
Matthew 16:13-21 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea
Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom
do men say that I the Son of man am? And they
said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist:
some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the
prophets. He saith unto them, But whom say ye
that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said,
Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed
art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood
hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father
which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee,
That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will
build my church; and the gates of hell shall not
prevail against it. And I will give unto thee
the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and
whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be
bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose
on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Then charged
he his disciples that they should tell no man
that he was Jesus the Christ. From that time
forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples,
how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer
many things of the elders and chief priests and
scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the
third day.
When is the Kingdom of Heaven?
There are many scriptures regarding the timing aspect of the kingdom of heaven.
My conclusion from these passages is that the kingdom of heaven is "at hand," or
approaching and will arrive with the King, Yeshua. The approaching time began
with John the Baptist and Christ and went into effect when Yeshua died on the
cross and Pentecost brought the Holy Spirit to the true believer. So the actual
kingdom of heaven is a spiritual one, manifest through obedience to the Word of
God today by the spreading of the Gospel message of salvation in conjunction
with the continuing message of His coming back for His church, the bride of
Christ. The "Kingdom Now" teaching, from my understanding, takes the Gospel message and
command to spread the Gospel into an attempt to establish God's kingdom on
earth. However, according to Bible prophecy, the antichrist reigns on the earth
until Yeshua returns in glory at Armageddon and destroys the antichrist and
false prophet, throwing them in the lake of fire. Bible prophecy also speaks of
a falling away from God, an apostasy, in the last days.
2 Thessalonians 2:1-4
So taking precept upon precept, the kingdom of heaven is the eternal kingdom and
it will come to earth when Yeshua comes to earth. The time before that will be
persecution for those who profess faith in Christ because this world is wicked.
We are not of this world, but have been chosen out of it through faith in
Christ.
Matthew 3:1-3 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching
in the wilderness of Judaea, And saying, Repent ye:
for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For
this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias,
saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness,
Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
Matthew 4:12-17 Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into
prison, he departed into Galilee; And leaving Nazareth,
he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea
coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim: That it
might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the
prophet, saying, The land of Zabulon, and the land of
Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles; The people which sat in
darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the
region and shadow of death light is sprung up. From that
time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for
the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Matthew 8:5-13 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there
came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, And saying,
Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy,
grievously tormented. And Jesus saith unto him, I will
come and heal him. The centurion answered and said,
Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my
roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be
healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers
under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and
to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do
this, and he doeth it. When Jesus heard it, he marvelled,
and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I
have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. And I
say unto you, That many shall come from the east and
west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and
Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven. But the
children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer
darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as
thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his
servant was healed in the selfsame hour.
Matthew 10:1-10 And when he had called unto him his twelve
disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits,
to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and
all manner of disease. Now the names of the twelve
apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called
Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee,
and John his brother; Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas,
and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and
Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; Simon the
Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.
These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them,
saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into
any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: But go rather
to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as ye
go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at handG1448.
Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast
out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your
purses, Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats,
neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy
of his meat.
Matthew 18:23-35 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto
a certain king, which would take account of his
servants. And when he had begun to reckon, one was
brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.
But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded
him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that
he had, and payment to be made. The servant therefore
fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have
patience with me, and I will pay thee all. Then the lord
of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed
him, and forgave him the debt. But the same servant went
out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him
an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him
by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest. And his
fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him,
saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
And he would not: but went and cast him into prison,
till he should pay the debt. So when his fellowservants
saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and
told unto their lord all that was done. Then his lord,
after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou
wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because
thou desiredst me: Shouldest not thou also have had
compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on
thee? And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the
tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto
him. So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto
you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his
brother their trespasses.
Matthew 20:1-16 For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man
that is an householder, which went out early in the
morning to hire labourers into his vineyard. And when he
had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent
them into his vineyard. And he went out about the third
hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,
And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and
whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their
way. Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour,
and did likewise. And about the eleventh hour he went
out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto
them, Why stand ye here all the day idle? They say unto
him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them,
Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right,
that shall ye receive. So when even was come, the lord
of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the
labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the
last unto the first. And when they came that were hired
about the eleventh hour, they received every man a
penny. But when the first came, they supposed that they
should have received more; and they likewise received
every man a penny. And when they had received it, they
murmured against the goodman of the house, Saying, These
last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them
equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of
the day. But he answered one of them, and said, Friend,
I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a
penny? Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give
unto this last, even as unto thee. Is it not lawful for
me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil,
because I am good? So the last shall be first, and the
first last: for many be called, but few chosen.
Matthew 22:1-14 And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by
parables, and said, The kingdom of heaven is like unto a
certain king, which made a marriage for his son, And
sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to
the wedding: and they would not come. Again, he sent
forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are
bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and
my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come
unto the marriage. But they made light of it, and went
their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:
And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them
spitefully, and slew them. But when the king heard
thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and
destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.
Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but
they which were bidden were not worthy. Go ye therefore
into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to
the marriage. So those servants went out into the
highways, and gathered together all as many as they
found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished
with guests. And when the king came in to see the
guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding
garment: And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou
in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was
speechless. Then said the king to the servants, Bind him
hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into
outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of
teeth. For many are called, but few are chosen.
Matthew 15:1-13 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto
ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to
meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and
five were foolish. They that were foolish took their
lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil
in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom
tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight
there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go
ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and
trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise,
Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the
wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough
for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and
buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the
bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with
him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward
came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to
us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I
know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the
day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
Matthew 25:14-46 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling
into a far country, who called his own servants, and
delivered unto them his goods. And unto one he gave five
talents, to another two, and to another one; to every
man according to his several ability; and straightway
took his journey. Then he that had received the five
talents went and traded with the same, and made them
other five talents. And likewise he that had received
two, he also gained other two. But he that had received
one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's
money. After a long time the lord of those servants
cometh, and reckoneth with them. And so he that had
received five talents came and brought other five
talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five
talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents
more. His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and
faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few
things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter
thou into the joy of thy lord. He also that had received
two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto
me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents
beside them. His lord said unto him, Well done, good and
faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few
things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter
thou into the joy of thy lord. Then he which had
received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee
that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not
sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed: And I
was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth:
lo, there thou hast that is thine. His lord answered and
said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou
knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where
I have not strawed: Thou oughtest therefore to have put
my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I
should have received mine own with usury. Take therefore
the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten
talents. For unto every one that hath shall be given,
and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not
shall be taken away even that which he hath. And cast ye
the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there
shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. When the Son of
man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels
with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his
glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and
he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd
divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the
sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Then
shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye
blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for
you from the foundation of the world: For I was an
hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave
me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked,
and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was
in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous
answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred,
and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw
we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and
clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison,
and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say
unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have
done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye
have done it unto me. Then shall he say also unto them
on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into
everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was
thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and
ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick,
and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they
also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an
hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick,
or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall
he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch
as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it
not to me. And these shall go away into everlasting
punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
Hierarchy in the Kingdom of Heaven
These scriptures show that besides the two groups of those that
enter the kingdom of heaven and those that don't, there is a
greatest and least in the kingdom.
Matthew 18:1-11
At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying,
Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus called a
little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, And
said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become
as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of
heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little
child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso
shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. But
whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me,
it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his
neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Woe unto
the world because of offences! for it must needs be that
offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!
Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and
cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life
halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be
cast into everlasting fire. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck
it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter
into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast
into hell fire. Take heed that ye despise not one of these
little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do
always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven. For the
Son of man is come to save that which was lost.
Matthew 19:13-30
Then were there brought unto him little children, that
he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples
rebuked them. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid
them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence. And, behold,
one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I
do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why
callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God:
but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. He
saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou
shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not
bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou
shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. The young man saith unto
him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I
yet? Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell
that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have
treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. But when the young
man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great
possessions. Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say
unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of
heaven. And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go
through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into
the kingdom of God. When his disciples heard it, they were
exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? But Jesus
beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible;
but with God all things are possible. Then answered Peter and
said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee;
what shall we have therefore? And Jesus said unto them, Verily I
say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the
regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his
glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve
tribes of Israel. And every one that hath forsaken houses, or
brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or
children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an
hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. But many that
are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.
On a side note, there is an interesting connection to the 12
thrones that the 12 disciples will sit on and the judgment of the 12
tribes of Israel.
Revelation 20:4-6
And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and
judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them
that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of
God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image,
neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their
hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand
years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and
holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the
second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and
of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
Matthew 23:1-14
Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, Saying
The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: All therefore
whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not
ye after their works: for they say, and do not. For they bind
heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's
shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of
their fingers. But all their works they do for to be seen of
men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders
of their garments, And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and
the chief seats in the synagogues, And greetings in the markets,
and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. But be not ye called
Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are
brethren. And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is
your Father, which is in heaven. Neither be ye called masters:
for one is your Master, even Christ. But he that is greatest
among you shall be your servant. And whosoever shall exalt
himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall
be exalted. But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!
for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither
go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go
in. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye
devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer:
therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
