DEBKAfile Exclusive: Assad tells Syrian army to step up state of
readiness and takes two further provocative steps
(July
31, 2006) - Syrian military intelligence agents detonated a bomb
at the Golan border fence near Kuneitra, though causing no casualties,
and the Syrian president put defense minister Gen. Hassan Turkemeni in
charge of military assistance to Hizbullah. He also instructed chief of
staff Gen. Ali Habib to personally oversee Syrian-Iranian cooperation
for military consignments to Hizbullah. In his order of the day to
the Syrian army, Bashar Assad wrote: “I call on all units, divisions,
brigades and battalions to redouble their training efforts and maintain
a high state of readiness. Remember that every drop of sweat you invest
in training will save a drop of blood when the time comes.” He added:
“Threats from the ‘masters of the world’ (US and Israel) telling us to
beware will not divert us from our path.” DEBKAfile’s Middle East
sources add: For three weeks, Assad has been working up to provoking a
limited war engagement with Israel.

A close crony,
Syrian lawmaker Marwan Habash is advocating the creation of a
resistance (terrorist) movement on the Golan Heights - likewise the
prominent cleric, Sheikh Asad Kopertou.
-
For the first
time in three decades the presidential palace allowed Syrian Druze
leaders to openly speak out in favor of an armed campaign to recapture
the Golan Heights.
Israeli
intelligence leaders are not of one mind about what these steps signify.
Some diagnose posturing by Damascus to get in on the Lebanon act while
not taking the chance of a missile war with Israel; others argue that
the Syrian president must be angling for a limited military
confrontation, otherwise he would not so blatantly parade his backing
for the Hizbullah. | Iran

and indeed that is what they've all been waiting for, a war with Israel
that will allow them to wipe Israel off the face of the earth.

NASA Study Shows Increase of Solar Radiation Could Effect Climate Change
on Earth
(July
29, 2006) - This "major" finding may help climatologists to
distinguish between solar and man-made influences on climate. According
to a NASA study, since the late 1970s, the amount of solar radiation the
sun emits, during times of quiet sunspot activity, has increased by
nearly .05 percent per decade. "This trend is important because, if
sustained over many decades, it could cause significant climate change,"
said Richard Willson, a researcher affiliated with NASA's Goddard
Institute for Space Studies and Columbia University's Earth Institute,
New York. "Historical records of solar activity indicate that solar
radiation has been increasing since the late 19th century. If a trend,
comparable to the one found in this study, persisted throughout the 20th
century, it would have provided a significant component of the global
warming the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports to have
occurred over the past 100 years." more...

This goes in line with what Richard C. Hoagland of Enterprise Mission
has been saying about the data that NASA has been getting on increased
solar radiation and increased radiation from the plantets too. Here's a
chart he made that shows this increase across the whole solar system. If
you still think humans are the cause of global warming, you've got to
see this. As evil as many make out pollution to be, it still can't get
out of our atmosphere and jump across space to affect Mars global
warming or any of the other planets!

Palestinian Fighters To Join
Hizbullah
By Ron Ross and The
Jerusalem Post
(July
29, 2006) -
The credibility of
Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas [Abu Mazen] appears to be
in tatters. While he discussed peace with United States Secretary of
State Rice, the leader of the Fatah faction in Lebanon Sultan Abu al-Aynain
was saying thousands of Lebanese Palestinian gunmen are ready to join
Hizbullah fighting against Israel. Fatah is the faction Mahmoud Abbas is
said to head. Abu al-Aynain revealed there are “thousands” of
Palestinian fighters who are prepared to fight. The Jerusalem Post
journalist Khaled Abu Toumeh said, “Sources close to Abbas refused to
comment on Abu al-Aynain’s threats, but acknowledged he was the Fatah
‘military commander’ in Lebanon.” It is acknowledged that al-Aynain has
already dispatched Palestinians to Iraq to fight against U.S. troops.
Hatred for Israel is seen as the unifying factor between the largely
Lebanese Shiites and the Palestinian Sunnis. Khaled Abu Toumeh said that
several armed Palestinian groups this week heaped praise on Hizbullah
for “stubbornly and courageously” resisting the Israel Defense Forces in
Lebanon. They are ready to send Palestinians to join Hizbullah in the
battle against Israel, he reported.

Turkish PM to meet with Muslim leaders on Lebanon
(July
28, 2006) - Frustrated by the U.S. support for Israel's military
offensive into Lebanon and Europe's not being able to stop the attacks,
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is planning to meet with
leaders of Muslim countries early next week to discuss a common strategy
to push Israel to accept a cease-fire. Organization of the Islamic
Conference (OIC) Term President Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi
called Erdogan on Wednesday and conveyed the idea to convene an
extraordinary OIC summit early next week in Kuala Lumpur. Erdogan, who
talked with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the phone last week
and discussed an urgent meeting of the OIC on Lebanon, expressed his
support and conveyed that Turkey will be present at the summit at the
highest level. However, the days set for the extraordinary OIC meeting,
next Tuesday and Wednesday, put Erdogan in a difficult spot. The days
coincides with a highly important meeting for domestic politics, the
Supreme Military Council (YAS), which is headed by the prime minister,
and is to name the new chief of General Staff as well as the top brass
of the armed forces. YAS is to begin on Tuesday and last three days, and
in the last couple of years Erdogan headed the meeting every day,
showing the government's authority and control over military affairs.
Prime Ministry sources told yesterday that despite difficulties in his
schedule, the prime minister is planning to attend the OIC summit, to
show solidarity with Lebanon and develop broader international support
for a cease-fire. Erdogan is expected to leave Malaysia on Wednesday.
and only attend the first day of the YAS meeting. Erdogan was highly
critical of Israel last week, accusing it of "ruthless violence" in
Lebanon. "No reason can ever justify the raining of bombs on innocent
civilians, the destruction of cities beyond the limits of mercy,"
Erdogan said. The Turkish premier also talked with the U.S. President
George W. Bush on the phone but failed to convince him to push Israel to
accept an immediate cease-fire.

Iran's President Rejects U.N. Resolution (August
1, 2006) -
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on
Tuesday rejected a U.N. Security Council resolution that would give
Iran until Aug. 31 to suspend uranium enrichment. Instead, Ahmadinejad
insisted Tehran would pursue its nuclear program. "My words are the words of the Iranian
nation. Throughout Iran, there is one slogan: 'The Iranian nation
considers the peaceful use of nuclear fuel production technology its
right,'" Ahmadinejad said. The U.N.
Security Council passed the resolution Monday that called for Iran to
suspend uranium enrichment by the end of August or face the threat of
economic and diplomatic sanctions.
Ahmadinejad said Iran will not give in to threats from the United
Nations. "If some think they can still
speak with threatening language to the Iranian nation, they must know
that they are badly mistaken," he said in a speech broadcast live on
state-run television. |

Raise Readiness, Assad Tells Syrian Army (August
1, 2006) - Syrian
President Bashar al-Assad told the Syrian military on Monday to raise
its readiness, pledging not to abandon support for Lebanese resistance
against Israel. "We are facing international circumstances and
regional challenges that require caution, alert, readiness and
preparedness," Assad said. "The barbaric war of annihilation the
Israeli aggression is waging on our people in Lebanon and Palestine is
increasing in ferocity," Assad said in a written address on the
occasion of the 61st anniversary of the foundation of the Syria Arab

Israel Will Expand Its Ground Operations In Southern Lebanon (August
1, 2006) -
Israel's security cabinet approved expanding the army's operations in
southern Lebanon after Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said the fight
against Hezbollah will continue until the group no longer poses a
threat. The cabinet early today unanimously approved "widening''
ground operations, said an Israeli government official, speaking
anonymously by regulation. Hezbollah will escalate attacks against
Israel in response to today's decision, said Ali Fayyad, a senior
member of the group's central council. Hezbollah has fired 1,900
rockets at northern Israeli towns since the conflict began July 12
after the Islamist group captured two soldiers. Israel yesterday
suspended air operations over Lebanon for 48 hours after a strike on a
town two days ago killed 62 civilians, including 37 children. "There
is no cease-fire and there won't be any cease-fire in the coming
days,'' Olmert said in a speech to a meeting of mayors in Tel Aviv
late yesterday. "This is an almost one-time opportunity to change the
rules of the game in Lebanon.'' more...

The National Weather Service issued heat warnings for such cities as

Israel Rejects Ceasefire Calls In Lebanon War (July
31, 2006) - Israel rejected mounting international pressure on
Monday to end its war against Hizbullah and launched a new incursion
into Lebanon despite halting most air raids for 48 hours. With world
powers still at odds over a ceasefire, a U.N. official said a meeting
scheduled for Monday on a new peacekeeping force for Lebanon had been
delayed "until there is more political clarity" on the path ahead in
the 20-day-old war. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said on Monday
there would be no ceasefire in the war in the coming days. "The
fighting continues. There is no ceasefire and there will not be any
ceasefire in the coming days," Olmert told local officials, drawing
sustained applause. Civilians fled battered villages in southern
Lebanon after Israel agreed partially to halt air strikes for 48
hours, and aid convoys headed into the area to deliver supplies.

Iran Forces Urged To Prepare To Hit Israel (July
31, 2006) - Iran's
hardline forces should get ready to take revenge on Israel
and the United States for the offensive on Lebanon, the head of the
Revolutionary Guards was quoted as saying on Sunday. "The Basij and
Revolutionary Guards should prepare to get even with the Zionists and
Americans," Yahya Rahim-Safavi was quoted as telling Islamic
militiamen by the conservative Fars news agency. The Basij are
volunteer Islamic militiamen. "The timing of the this will be
announced by the leader," he added. An Israeli air strike killed 54
civilians, including 37 children in the southern Lebanese village of
Qana on Sunday, the bloodiest single attack since Israel's 19-day-old
war on Lebanese Hizbollah guerrillas began. Iran's Revolutionary
Guards are historically close to Hizbollah and were deployed in south
Lebanon during the 1980s. Mostafa Chamran, spiritual father of the
Guards, forged his reputation fighting in Lebanon.

Sydney synagogue attacked (July
31, 2006) - An attack on a Sydney synagogue may have been

civilian death toll in Lebanon, a rabbi said Monday. Rabbi Wernick,
who cited religious reasons in declining to give his first name, and
his young family were inside a house attached to a synagogue in

hurled at the synagogue roof. Shortly after the incident, witnesses
told police they saw a group of about 10 Middle Eastern men laughing
and running down a nearby street. Werner said the conflict between
Israel and Lebanon might have been a trigger for the attack.

Hezbollah: we’ve planned this for 6 years (July
30, 2006) - Until now Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed militant
group, has refused to reveal much about its response to Israel’s
assault. But in an exclusive interview with The Sunday Times
yesterday, Sheikh Naim Qassem, Hezbollah’s second in command, spoke
out — and attacked Britain for allowing US planes carrying bombs to
Israel to transit through a British airport. “The transportation of
American weapons to Israel is a blatant scandal of America’s full
involvement in the battle,” he said, “and flying them over London
bears large responsibility over Britain. “Instead of working on solving the continuous
conflicts in the Middle East, the powerful nations are participating
in intensifying and complicating the issues. This is dangerous for
peace, and for future relationships between this region and these
countries.” Qassem admitted Hezbollah had been preparing for conflict
since Israel withdrew from south Lebanon in 2000. He claimed it had
not been convinced that Israel’s aspirations in Lebanon were over,
despite its withdrawal.

Israelis Edge Closer To War With Syria (July
30, 2006) - Israel and Syria appeared to be edging closer to
direct military confrontation last night after tit-for-tat attacks
around the Lebanese border and the revelation that a new type of
long-range missile fired into Israel by Hezbollah was built in Syria.
Tension between the two countries over the war in Lebanon was growing
as both Tel Aviv and Damascus readied their forces for the possibility
of a direct clash. Israeli intelligence reported that Syrian forces
had been put onto their highest state of alert, while Israel has
called up 15,000 reservists who many believe will be despatched as
reinforcements to the disputed Golan Heights, between the two
countries. Last night an explosives expert with the Israeli police
concluded that the "unknown" missile fired by the pro-Syrian Hezbollah
at the town of Afula on Friday, 30 miles inside the Israeli border,
was Syrian-made, and was capable of reaching Tel Aviv, the country's
largest city. more... |

San Andreas Fault So Stressed, Next Quake Could Be Magnitude 8 (July

the San Andreas so stressed that its next quake release of energy

Fault is considered the main boundary between the Pacific and North

off sections of the Pacific coast into the ocean. The tension between
those moving plates is what makes California "earthquake country."

Syria On Alert As Israel Strikes Near Border (July

Thursday, Israeli F-15Is struck a suspected Hizbullah training camp in
the Bekaa Valley near the Syrian border. The Syrian military, deployed
several kilometers away, did not respond. Israeli officials and
intelligence sources said Iran and Syria have accelerated the flow of
weapons and combatants into Lebanon. They said Damascus and Teheran
have also been bolstering forces to prepare for a war from Syrian
territory, Middle East Newsline reported. "They [Syrians] are
operating along the border and we can't ignore this," Israeli Cabinet
minister Eli Yishai said on Friday. Officials said Syria has placed
its forces on the highest alert in years and deployed missile
batteries along the border with Lebanon. They said Israel, which has
ordered the mobilization of three reserve divisions, plans to station
Arrow-2 and PAC-2 missile defense systems to protect Tel Aviv from

More Than 160 Hizballah Rockets Hit Israel Sunday (July
