Baylor study finds religion thriving in the U.S. (September 13, 2006) - Contrary to the impression given on the campaign trail, Americans do not believe God favors one political party over another, according to a national survey released today by the Baylor Institute for Studies of Religion. The American Piety in the 21st Century survey also found that religion is not in decline in the United States as reported by previous national studies. Overall, only 4 percent believe that God favors a political party. Among the roughly 100 million identified as evangelical Protestants by the survey, 8.1 percent hold that belief. However, nearly a fifth (18.6 percent) of respondents believe God favors the United States in world affairs. Among evangelicals, 26 percent think God is on the side of the United States. In what researchers described as one of the most comprehensive studies of the U.S. religious landscape, the survey found that 89 percent of Americans attend a local congregation or affiliate with a denomination. The finding rebuts other national surveys showing that 14 percent or more of Americans were "religious nones" — people with no religious backgrounds. more...

9/11 Firefighter Recalls the Infamous Day as a "Taste of Hell" (September 11, 2006) - Larry Everett is a member of the elite Fairfax County, Virginia, Fire and Rescue Department – and he, like so many other in, remembers exactly where he was on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. He remembers it as "a taste of hell." According to an article written by Terry White for his denominational newspaper, Everett was called in to assist when a hijacked Boeing 757 slammed into the 29-acre Pentagon complex on September 11, 2001 – a day that will take its place in history alongside Pearl Harbor. "Everett vividly recalls entering the third floor of the massive facility and being met with a wall of fire. Temperatures exceeded 2,500 degrees -- he and his crew of 25 watched metal desks and file cabinets melt before their eyes," says White. Wearing firefighting gear rated for only 1,500 degrees, Everett is convinced that God protected him in the inferno. Everett and his colleagues spent nine hours in active firefighting that day. White says: "Their strategy on the upper floors was to push the fire further back into the building where it would starve and be extinguished. But no matter what they did, they could not escape the intense heat." "This is what hell is going to be like," Everett remembers thinking. The impact of the airliner and leaking fuel produced intense heat and a smoky blaze that penetrated three of the building's five rings. White says that when the firefighters entered the first floor, they found a dark area within the collapsed building. Eighteen inches of water covered the floor—it had filtered down from firefighters on the upper stories. There in the basement Everett saw his second picture of hell—a darkness that was so complete it established itself as a presence. "You could feel the darkness," Everett recalls. "Hell is the complete and utter absence of God." more...

This is exactly how I view hell. I've made a page on hell with links to some stories of people who have, in near death, experienced hell. It's a sobering reminder of just how much we need God and it reminds us how much we take the love for granted that we have here on earth. God is love 1 John 4:7,8 and you don't want to be in the absence of His love forever!

DEBKAfile: Olmert’s belated discovery of a serious breach with Washington prompted him to disinter the Middle East roadmap (September 10, 2006) - The Israeli prime minister informed the cabinet Sunday Sept 10 that the time had come to reach for a “diplomatic horizon.” Offering to meet Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas “without pre-conditions,” he brought back to life the moribund Middle East road map. So what happened to his realignment plan which filled all the empty space on his campaign platform only six months ago? The answer lies in Washington, where he is in very hot water with the Bush administration. First, the White House was angered by the way Olmert, defense minister Amir Peretz and foreign minister Tzipi Livni mismanaged the Lebanon war and, in doing so, got in the way of America’s plans for Iran. This was followed by a further complaint: During his May visit to Washington, the Israeli prime minister presented the US president and the two Houses of Congress his realignment (aka convergence) plan for a partial withdrawal from the West Bank. He asked for American support and received it with an ovation. more...

Israel's primed for a peace covenant. It's coming soon, I believe, and they will bite. They'll get to rebuild the temple next to the dome of the rock, and soon after the beast will declare himself god there.

Doctors Make "Spectacular, Momentous Discovery" - Permanent Coma Patient Found to Understand what is Going On Around Her (September 7, 2006) - "These are startling results. They confirm that, despite the diagnosis of a vegetative state, this patient retained the ability to understand spoken commands and to respond to them through her brain activity." The Daily Mail reports that scientists have made a momentous discovery: a 23-year-old British woman, trapped in a vegetative state for a year following a car accident, understands what is going on around her. According to the report, using brain scans, doctors discovered the woman can imagine playing tennis in her head when she was told to by doctors. Lead researcher Dr. Adrian Owen is quoted as saying: "These are startling results. They confirm that, despite the diagnosis of a vegetative state, this patient retained the ability to understand spoken commands, and to respond to them through her brain activity." The finding that someone who appears totally unconscious can react in this way has reportedly shocked the medical community who described it as "spectacular" and "remarkable." more...

Texas Towns, Ridiculed for Praying for Rain, Have Prayers Answered (September 5, 2006) - Now another Texas town considers passing a resolution to pray for rain. The drought-stricken cities of Lubbock and Rockwall, Texas, drew national attention last week when they called for city resolutions calling for prayer for rain. According to a report in WorldNetDaily, "There was some snickering in certain parts of the country" when city officials did so. Within seven days of the Lubbock vote, notes the report, the rains started. And they haven't stopped. Without mentioning the prayer requests, Channel 11 KCBD reported: "Looking outside, you'd never guess a month ago that Lubbock was described as parched, and in serious drought conditions." As a result of the "answer to prayer," another Texas town -- Aledo -- is reportedly considering a similar resolution for prayer. The article also stated that it was not the first time prayers for rain in Lubbock have been answered. In January 2004, after a year of drought, the city and county set aside a Sunday to pray for rain, and got the second-wettest year since records have been kept. more...

Al Qaeda No. 2 Releases Tape Inviting Americans to Convert to Islam (September 2, 2006) - Al Qaeda's deputy leader Ayman al-Zawahiri issued a new videotape Saturday along with a man identified as an American member of the terror network, inviting Americans to convert to Islam. The 41-minute video, posted on an Islamic militant Web site nine days before the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks, had footage of al-Zawahri and a man the video identified as Adam Yehiye Gadahn, an American who the FBI believes attended Al Qaeda training camps in Pakistan and served as an Al Qaeda translator. Gadahn and al-Zawahiri did not appear together in the footage but were each featured on a split screen. Both wore white turbans and robes. It was the second time Gadahn has appeared in the same video with al-Zawahiri. In a July 7 video marking the one-year anniversary of bombings against the London transit system, Gadahn said no Muslim should "shed tears" for Westerners killed by Al Qaeda attacks. "To the American people and the people of the West in general ... God sent his Prophet Muhammad with guidance and the religion of truth ... and sent him as a herald," al-Zawahiri said in an introduction to Saturday's video. more...

EU's Solana To Try To Revive Mideast Peace Effort (September 1, 2006) - The European Union on Friday said its foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, would tour the Middle East in an attempt to revive stalled peace efforts and rally support from Arab nations. Finnish Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja said the E.U. wants to get back to the 2003 "road map" peace plan and would step up support for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's efforts to form a Palestinian government of national unity. The E.U. would like to reconvene the so-called Quartet that sponsored the "road map" plan - the E.U., the U.S., Russia and the U.N. - as soon as possible, Tuomioja said. "Javier Solana has the mandate ... to move forward with the peace process and present us with new ideas necessary," Tuomioja told reporters after a meeting of E.U. foreign ministers. He said Solana will be "in contact with all parties that are relevant," notably Syria. "It is up to Syria to choose the role it wants to play. We want it to play a constructive role," Tuomioja said. Tuomioja hailed Syria's commitment, made at a meeting with U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan earlier Friday in Damascus, to step up border patrols and work with the Lebanese army to stop the flow of weapons to Hezbollah. At that meeting, Annan asked Syria to use its influence to help win the release of three Israeli soldiers held by Lebanese and Palestinian militants allied with Damascus. Syria will boost the number of its own guards along the Lebanon-Syria border, and establish joint patrols with the Lebanese army "where possible," Annan said. more...

Actor Chuck Norris and Wife Gena Joi n National Council on Bible Curriculum in Public Schools Board of Directors (September 1, 2006) - Actor Chuck Norris is stepping up in hopes of influencing school boards to implement a curriculum that studies the Bible from a historical point. "We receive a lot of requests to get behind a lot of things, but it took us only a few minutes to know that we were to stand behind this important work," Norris said. And that's just what they are doing. They've been featured on a program to help citizens realize the potential the Bible has in today's classroom. That it is a learning tool. The program has had a 93% success rate with getting the elective course "The Bible in History and Literature" into over 1,350 schools in 37 states. Over 190,000 students have participated in the course as a part of their studies. The textbook for it is the Bible, and the course "emphasizes the Bible's influence upon literature, history, our legal and educational systems, archeology, art, and other aspects of Western Civilization." The program is taught from a perspective of learning from a history book, and includes a 300-page teacher's guide. Students told Chuck and Gena that they love the course, and hope that they can do another year of it. For more information CLICK HERE. more...

Hizbullah Presents: How To Recruit Children By Roee Nahmias, Ynetnews.com (August 31, 2006) - Alongside weapons, rockets, and explosives found by Israel Defense Forces [IDF] soldiers in southern Lebanon, troops also discovered booklets containing questions for children on the Hizbullah terror group and its struggle. Their goal: conveying messages to youth, who will later become the organization's future terrorists. Do you know who is "the most senior Lebanese prisoner jailed in the Israeli enemy's prisons"? And where did the aircraft of "the Zionist enemy" assassinate Sheikh Abbas Mussawi [who served as the Hizbullah secretary-general before Hassan Nasrallah], his wife, and his toddler son? If you know the answers, you have a good chance of winning the children's quiz written by Hizbullah members. However, this is not a simple quiz examining the general knowledge of the children and youth of Lebanon. Hizbullah is attempting to recruit them to the organization at an early age. Material collected by IDF soldiers in southern Lebanon–alongside the weapons, rockets, and explosives–reveals a complex and rare picture of Hizbullah's contents and activities among children and youth, mainly in southern Lebanon villages, which are considered its stronghold. A special kit for children was found at the village of Aita al-Shaab. It includes an award-bearing quiz titled "The 2006 Competition of Victory Youngsters," alongside a possibility of donating money to Hizbullah. The kit was produced by the "aid authority for the Islamic resistance." Alongside the questions presented to the infants in southern Lebanon, there are also quizzes presented as a multiple-choice test. Alongside answers to questions like "the Risk game, Playstation or Atari," one can find answers like "Nissim Nasser, Samir Kuntar or Yahya Sahef" (the three prisoners which Hizbullah wants to see released). But Hizbullah members turn not only to children and youth. Among the materials confiscated during the fighting in Lebanon at the Aita al-Shaab and Aytaroun villages, soldiers found documents and leaflets dealing with raising donations for Hizbullah and the organization's propaganda campaign among the Lebanese population (focusing on the Shiite community). The documents and leaflets were published by a Hizbullah institution called "the aid authority for the Islamic resistance." The document writers explain that the "aid authority for the Islamic resistance" is an important Hizbullah institution, which was established by the organization in 1989 in order to properly organize the organization's fundraising system. The writers estimate that the funds are mainly raised for purchasing weapons for the organization's fighters. The funds are raised in Lebanon and among Islamic communities (mainly Shiites) around the world, particularly in the Persian Gulf countries and in western countries. This institution raises large sums of money in private homes and public places in Lebanon: Businesses, mosques, education institution, petrol stations, shopping centers, roadblocks and more. It uses thousands of "charity boxes" spread among populations, as well as national fundraising campaigns. Part of the activity is carried out in cooperation with other Hizbullah social-economic institutions. The leaflets feature a drawing, with the message that the donations are aimed at purchasing weapons for the destruction of the State of Israel. The leaflets read: "In order for all of our houses to become part of the resistance (Hizbullah)–this is the resistance box–place it in your home." The picture shows a charity box designed as the Dome of the Rock with a photo of the former Hizbullah secretary-general. Coins inserted into the box turn into bullets when they emerge from the box and smash a Star of David symbolizing Israel.

Israeli researchers get a charge out of safe nano-battery (August 27, 2006) - A team of scientists at Tel Aviv University have developed and patented a nano-battery technology for fast charge/discharge batteries that eliminates fire hazards associated with current lithium-based batteries and can provide an alternative source of power for mobile devices. As semiconductor technology has advanced over recent years, batteries have become the weakest link in the operability of electronic devices according to TAU Prof. Menachem Nathan, head of the university's Fleischmann Faculty of Engineering, and the head of the nano-battery project. The growth in power-hungry mobile devices in the marketplace, however, means that manufacturers must substantially increase battery running time by packing more and more power into tighter packages. Moreover, end-users are becoming impatient with the amount of time needed to charge these high power batteries, resulting in a need to design quicker charging devices. more...

New EU Map Makes Kent Part Of Same 'Nation' As France (September 13, 2006) - They have tried to redraw the map of Europe before. Now a German-led "conspiracy of cartographers" stands accused of trying to use a new European Union directive to give Brussels the power to change national boundaries. The Conservative Party fears that the directive, currently passing through the European Parliament, could be the first step of a Berlin-inspired masterplan to create a United States of Europe divided, not into nation states, but instead a series of "trans-national" regions, the templates for which have already been drawn up. Under the changes, those living in Kent and East Sussex would find themselves not inhabitants of Britain, but the TransManche region, where their fellow citizens would not be their English-speaking neighbours but the French-speaking population of northern France. more...

Another 9/11 on it's way (September 12, 2006) - The Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks were the beginning of the collapse of the American empire, and it is only a question of time before the next "great big event" strikes the United States, a senior Palestinian terror leader who received American training warned during a WND interview today. "The Americans even now are doing everything to bring our hostility and hatred to higher levels and bring us to wait impatiently for the next great big event," said Abu Muhammad, a senior leader of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades in the northern West Bank city of Jenin. "They deserve one more coup of this kind (like 9/11), and I am sure it is only a question of time. September 11 was the beginning of the collapse of this empire of evil." The Al Aqsa Brigades, the declared "military wing" of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas' party, is responsible for scores of deadly shootings, hundreds of rocket attacks, and – together with the Islamic Jihad terror group – every suicide bombing inside Israel in the past two years. more...

3 killed outside U.S. embassy in Syria (September 12, 2006) - Armed Islamic militants attempted to storm the U.S. Embassy in a brazen attack Tuesday, the government said. Four people were killed, including three of the assailants. There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but an al-Qaida offshoot group was suspected, Syria's ambassador to the United States said. No Americans were hurt in the attack, in which the militants used automatic rifles, hand grenades and at least one van rigged with explosives. The al-Qaida offshoot group, called Jund al-Sham, has been blamed for several attacks in Syria in recent years, the Syrian ambassador, Imad Moustapha, said in comments to CNN. more...

"Hopefully in the coming days we will begin forming the government of national unity," the spokesman, Nabil Abu Rudeinah said. Five years after 9/11, the ACLU considers Christians the terrorists (September 11, 2006) - Joe Cook has long since apologized for what he said last summer. Although he is director of the Louisiana chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, and strenuously opposed to anything resembling prayer in public schools or God in public life, he says he wasn’t speaking for the ACLU – or, curiously, even for himself – when he said what he said. He said it about some teachers, students, and school board members in Tangipahoa Parish who, on infrequent occasions, have offered public, “sectarian” prayers in their classrooms, at school banquets, or to open board meetings. “They [the Christians] have always crossed the line of separation of church and government,” Cook said. “They believe they answer to a higher power, in my opinion… which is the kind of thinking you had with the people who flew airplanes in the buildings in this country.” more...

Al-Qaeda Warns Of New Attacks In Gulf, Israel (September 11, 2006) - Al Qaeda's deputy leader, Ayman al-Zawahri, warned in a new video aired on Monday that Israel and Gulf Arab states would be the network's next target. Zawahri said in the video, an excerpt of which was shown on al-Jazeera television, that the West should not "bother yourselves with defending your forces in Iraq and Afghanistan." "You have to bolster your defences in two areas ... The first is the Gulf, from which you will be evicted, God willing ... and the next is Israel..." Five years after the 9/11 terror attacks, al-Zawahiri called upon Muslims to increase acts of resistance against the Unites States. Zawahiri's taped message was published on al-Qaeda's film website, al-Sahab, and parts of the message were broadcast on CNN. In the message, Zawahiri called upon Muslims to fight the US's allies in Somalia, where Islamic militia recently succeeded in removing the local, US-supported government from its capital. more...

Strong quake rocks Southwest Florida (September 10, 2006) - An unusually strong earthquake in the Gulf of Mexico rocked southwest Florida today, provoking worried calls from nearly 2,000 people in the state and from as far away as North Carolina, geologists said. No damage or injuries were reported, though many residents of the region experienced dishes that rattled all by themselves and swimming pools that suddenly developed rolling waves. The 6.0 magnitude quake struck at 10:56 a.m. EDT and was centered 259 miles west of Bradenton and 397 miles from Miami. Sally Mayse of Bradenton was riding her bike on a local causeway when she felt a vibration and her two-wheeler wobbled. She thought it was a tractor-trailer but none was in sight. Iran President Urges West To Follow God's Path (September 7, 2006) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad urged the West to turn to God's path and said on Wednesday that failure to do so would tempt fate. Iran is embroiled in a nuclear stand-off with the West, which accuses Tehran of seeking to build atomic bombs, a charge Tehran dismisses. Ahmadinejad says Western powers use such accusations as a ploy to hold back Iran's development. "Those who do not respond to the invitation (to follow God's will), as we said, will have no good fate," said Ahmadinejad, who is a devout Shi'ite Muslim and only the second non-cleric to be president of the Islamic Republic. Ahmadinejad -- whose speeches are often peppered with religious and anti-Western remarks -- rebuffed accusations that Iranian policy constitutes a threat to the United States and again challenged President Bush to a live television debate. Washington has said the call for a debate is a diversion. more...

Powers Should Not Isolate Iran: Annan (September 5, 2006) - The international community should not isolate Iran, which has indicated it will cooperate in the reconstruction of Lebanon, United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan told a Spanish newspaper. "The international community should count on Iran, not isolate it," Annan said in an interview with El Pais in Qatar which was published on Tuesday. Annan spoke to El Pais after a weekend visit to Tehran as part of a Middle Eastern tour to shore up the ceasefire that ended fighting between Israel and Iranian-backed Lebanese Hizbollah guerrillas. "The general perception is that Iran is acting on its own, giving money to Hizbollah. In my conversations in Tehran, I asked the Iranians to work with other countries in reconstruction. They accepted my request, which is a very helpful attitude," Annan said. Iran's stand-off with Western powers over its nuclear program can only be resolved via negotiation, he said. more...

Pope and former students ponder evolution, not "Intelligent Design" (September 4, 2006) - Pope Benedict and his former doctoral students spent a weekend pondering evolution without discussing controversies over intelligent design and creationism raging in the United States, a participant said on Sunday. The three-day closed-door meeting at the papal summer residence of Castel Gandolfo outside Rome ended as planned without drawing any conclusions but the group plans to publish its discussion papers, said Father Joseph Fessio S.J. Media speculation had said the debate might shift Vatican policy to embrace "intelligent design," which claims to prove scientifically that life could not have simply evolved, or even the "creationist" view that God created the world in six days. "It wasn't that at all," Fessio, who is provost of Ave Maria University in Florida, told Reuters by telephone from Rome. The Pope's session with 39 former students was "a meeting of friends with some scholars to discuss an interesting theme". "We did not really speak much about intelligent design," said Fessio, whose Ignatius Press publishes the Pope's books in English. "In fact, that particular controversy did not arise." Fessio said Benedict took part in the discussions but said nothing different from previous public statements, in which he has recognized evolution as a scientific fact but argued that God ultimately created the world and all life in it. more...

I recommend watching Kent Hovind's series on the creation/evolution debate if you don't feel informed enough to make a decision on what you believe. He lays it all out scientifically and logically. You can view his videos via YouTube here. Macro-evolution does not exist and has never been observed. Changes within a kind of animal are very common, that's why we have so many breeds of dogs and cats, but they're all the same kind of animal, a dog or a cat. This is a must foundational piece for all believers and a common-sense tool to reach non-believers.

Olmert: War Against Syria Would Be 'Without Limits' (September 4, 2006) - Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told a Knesset committee Monday morning that if Syria goes to war against Israel, the IDF will react without the limitations that restricted the retaliation against Hizbullah terrorists in Lebanon. During the war, the government said it did not prevent the military establishment from carrying out plans, but senior army officers have stated that the ground assault was delayed several days by the government. "What we have done in Lebanon amounts to a deterring element against the Syrians, because they now realize that while in Lebanon we have restrained our use of force, in a campaign against them we will not adhere to such restraints," he asserted.

Remember that Bible prophecy talks about Damascus being a ruinous heap. Isaiah 17 It goes on to talk about the nations that rush like the rushing of many waters being rebuked by God and chased off as chaff of the mountains. This sounds very familiar to how the Gog/Magog invasion is described as being stopped in the mountains of Israel when God's fury comes up in His face. Ezekiel 38:18-23 Given this stern warning from Olmert to Syria if they should decide to do anything, we could see Damascus become a ruinous heap and that becoming the "hooks in the jaws" of the Gog/Magog armies (Iran has a defense agreement with Syria) for them to attack. We already have "peacekeeping forces" from Turkey and Russia planned to build up on the Southern border of Lebanon and the Gog/Magog armies attack from the North. What better surprise attack than by the supposed "peacekeeping forces?" The Bible names the nations that participate and Turkey, Iran, and possibly Russia are among them. Keep watching! I would also recommend Chuck Missler's $7.95 downloadable mp3/RealPlayer commentary on The Magog Invasion. It's about two hours on the history of Magog and what his identity is.

The Growing Dispute over Jerusalem’s Temple Mount (September 3, 2006) - The Bible says it's a city chosen by God, the place where He put His name, where King David reigned and his son Solomon built the first temple. It's the most sacred city in the world for Christians and Jews, the third holiest in the Islamic faith. Tens of thousands of Christians make pilgrimage there each year to walk the streets where Jesus once walked, to see where He was crucified and the tomb where He rose from the dead. For Jews, the Wailing Wall is sacred. They come to Jerusalem from throughout Israel and around the world to pray at the last remnant of the second temple, a temple destroyed by the Romans in 72 AD Muslims conquered Jerusalem in 637, and shortly thereafter, built the Dome of the Rock shrine on the Temple Mount. They believe a rock located beneath the center of the Dome is the spot where Mohammed ascended into heaven. Muslims once faced in the direction of Jerusalem when they prayed. They now face toward Mecca -- the place of the annual Haj, the location of the Kabbah -- the sacred altar where Abraham nearly sacrificed his son. But some Jews and Christians believe that the event may have taken place somewhere near Jerusalem's Temple Mount on Mount Moriah. Enter author Joel Rosenberg and his newest novel The Copper Scroll. It's a book based on the true discovery in 1956 of another Dead Sea Scroll. This scroll reveals how billions of dollars of undiscovered treasures remain hidden in the Judean hills and beneath the city of Jerusalem itself. Rosenberg's book comes at a time when Israel is fighting for its survival, and when a nuclear- ambitious Iran declares that Israel should be wiped off the map. more...

MK Bishara Warns Syria Of Israeli Attack (September 10, 2006) - National Democratic Assembly chairman, Knesset Member Azmi Bishara, arrived in Damascus on Friday and immediately began making public statements condemning the Israeli occupation of the territories. Bishara joined his party members, MKs Jamal Zahalka and Wasil Taha, as well as former MKs Muhammad Kanan and Mohammed Miari, who have been in the city since Thursday. In the course of his meeting with senior members of the ruling Baath party, Bishara warned Syria of the possibility that "Israel launch a preliminary offensive in more than one place, in a bid to overcome the internal crisis in the country and in an attempt to restore its deterrence capability." During the meeting, Bishara lauded Syria's support for the national rights of the Palestinians and Lebanon, and stressed that the motivation for the "American-Israeli attack" against Syria lies in Damascus' firm stances. "Syria is the last barrier standing before the strike," MK Bishara said. "The Palestinians living under the occupation have long realized the importance of adhering to the Arab option, in light of the scope of adventurous attempts to hurt their cultural and Arab identity," he added. more...

Another Anti-Israel Media Hoax Revealed (September 2, 2006) - In the last week of July, nearly two weeks into the Israel-Hizbullah war, the international media was filled with reports of an Israeli air attack on two Lebanese Red Cross ambulances - a heinous war crime. The gist of the news was that on the night of July 23, 2006, the ambulances were performing rescue operations when Israeli aircraft attacked them, causing explosions and a fire and injuring everyone inside the vehicles. Photos of the damaged ambulances were published in many newspapers and websites, and breathless reporters - such as Julian Manyon of ITV News in Britain - bemoaned "Lebanese ambulance men, shocked and bleeding, brought in as casualties to a hospital in Tyre. They were hurt when Israeli aircraft rocketed two ambulance crews..." One of the more interesting details featured in all the reports was that a missile had struck the exact center of the cross on the roof of one of the ambulances. Now, however, accumulated evidence shows clearly that the incident never occurred - as has been the case in other media-hyped incidents placing Israel in a negative light. Much of the evidence to this effect that has been collected thus far can be summarized as follows: more...

Study: Earth and Space Weather Connected (September 12, 2006) - Space weather in the upper reaches of the atmosphere is affected by weather conditions down here on Earth, a new study suggests. Using a combination of satellite imagery and computer simulations, researchers found that tides of air created by intense thunderstorms over South America, Africa and Southeast Asia are altering the structure of the ionosphere, the topmost layers of the atmosphere where space weather occurs. The finding, detailed in the Aug. 11 issue of Geophysical Research Letters, is surprising because scientists didn't think the ionosphere and the troposphere—the lower part of the atmosphere where terrestrial weather happens—affected one another. Iran Fires Artillery into Iraq, Captures 7 Border Guards (September 12, 2006) - Iran has shelled Iraq and captured seven of its soldiers in an escalation of ongoing skirmishes. Iraqi officials said the Iran Army fired artillery shells into Iraq last week and captured seven soldiers northeast of Baghdad. This was the most serious incident between Iran and Iraq in 2006. Last year, Iraq reported Iranian Navy clashes with Iraqi patrols, Middle East Newsline reported. On Saturday, the Iraqi Defense Ministry reported the Iranian capture of seven members of an Iraqi border patrol. The ministry said the Iraqis were detained while they were stationed at the Hankin border terminal near Haila. The ministry said an investigation has been launched. In August, Kurdish officials in Iraq said the Iran Army shelled suspected insurgency strongholds in northern Iraq. Iran has acknowledged fighting along the border. The state-owned Iranian news agency Irna said on Sept. 7 that Iran captured seven Iraqi soldiers who crossed into Iran's Ilam province. more...

Ammunition Disappearing? (September 12, 2006)

“Hi Steve, I was listening to your show tonight and heard you speaking about ammo. As you know I believe in being well armed and trained. I would like to let you know 308 7.62x51 is drying up. I contacted a friend of mine who is a big dealer in the Boston area to see what he could get and he said "Dave, we are sold out and there will be no more on the way." He said his suppliers inventory's have dried up. I feel in my heart that the times we live in now are coming to an end in the near future. You are in my prayers and God bless you for the service you provide to those who have ears to hear.” | David
“Steve, I live in Ft Worth Tx. Cheaper Than Dirt & Military Gun Supply are both in town, last Friday they didn't even have 500 rounds of 7.62/39. At the gun show sat. & sun. Not even one box of 20 rounds! Not looking to good. Thanks for your efforts.” | Jim
“Steve, The article Ammunitions Disappearing is very true. I shoot at the local hand gun range regularly. I went to buy some 45cal. and 9mm ammo last Friday Sept. the 8th. and I ended up going to 2 different suppliers to get a couple of boxes. One supplier had a couple of boxes of 9mm and the other had a couple of boxes of 45's, but that was it. I asked when they were expecting a new shipment in and they both told me because the price of metal was continuing to rise they couldn't get good buys. They said they were waiting for the price to stabilize. At the time I thought this sounded odd but I let it go. After reading your posted article I think something major is about to happen. A lot of us may own personal hand guns, but with out ammunition they are useless. This would be a form of gun control without changing any laws. Just wanted to share a personal experience. Keep up the good work I enjoy your site very much and thanks for keeping us informed. Sincerely,” | Gary

How Hi-Tech Hezbollah Called the Shots (September 9, 2006) - Hezbollah's ability to repel the Israel Defense Forces during the recent conflict was largely due to its use of intelligence techniques gleaned from allies Iran and Syria that allowed it to monitor encoded Israeli communications relating to battlefield actions, according to Israeli officials, whose claims have been independently corroborated by the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). "Israeli EW [electronic warfare] systems were unable to jam the systems at the Iranian Embassy in Beirut, they proved unable to jam Hezbollah's command and control links from Lebanon to Iranian facilities in Syria, they blocked the Barak ship anti-missile systems, and they hacked into Israeli operations communications in the field," Richard Sale, the longtime intelligence editor for United Press International, who was alerted to this intelligence failure by current and former CIA officials, told Asia Times Online. more...

'You're Despicable!' (September 11, 2006) - On Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at an immigration conference chaired by Senator Wayne Allard in Denver, Colorado, a high profile pro-illegal alien advocate looked up at me with seething anger in her swollen eyes, “You’re despicable!” She ripped the sign out of my hands, “STOP THE INVASION: DEPORT ILLEGAL ALIENS.” She sobbed to the press about her illegal aliens being outlawed with Colorado’s new immigration laws, “This system is a tragedy, and people are suffering.” What caused her outburst of yelling and violence? While she and others for “Immigrant Rights” presented a news conference to counter Senator Allard’s, I took a lesson out of her playbook from my experiences on the 21st Century Paul Revere Ride this past summer. While my group toured 48 states, busting our rear ends for 20,000 miles on motorcycles (my butt still aches), we always presented a permit to speak, but illegal alien advocates shouted us down from Los Angeles to Boston. While this fine, upstanding woman with questionable allegiance to America, stood in front of five cameras talking a line of balderdash, I stepped in front of her stating, “In post 9/11, 21st century America, it is dangerous and irresponsible to allow millions of people into our country and we don’t know their identities. We don’t know their criminal backgrounds, their terrorist intent or the diseases they carry into our country. They’re overwhelming our schools, hospitals, prisons and language. Illegal aliens kill 25 Americans daily! We’re tired of being collateral damage in our own country. We’re sick of Americans like her advocating for anarchy against our laws.” more...

Iran Resumed Weapons Airlift to Hizballah via Beirut Friday as Soon as Israel Ended its Air Blockade (September 11, 2006) - Iran’s first post-blockade arms flight departed Dubai Friday, Sept. 8, to test the ground at Beirut international airport for Israeli air force or UN reactions. DEBKAfile’s military sources report that the forbidden goods were unloaded and sailed through the airport unhindered. Tehran therefore determined to send two further bulk consignments in the next 48 hours aboard commercial flights from the Persian Gulf. Our sources report the arms crates listed were on the documents as “computer equipment. Handle with care.” They were offloaded onto trucks which drove in convoy to Hizballah headquarters in Baalbek. UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, determined to end Israel’s air blockade on Lebanon, promised solemnly that UN monitors would control incoming passengers and goods at Beirut airport. But he failed to make the Siniora government follow through on this pledge. The Lebanese prime minister immediately barred the airport to UN inspections. The five German air monitors agreed on were only allowed to establish a checkpoint for controlling arms smuggling at a distance of one kilometer from the international airport. DEBKAfile reports they are standing idle because the trucks carrying forbidden cargoes are able leave the airfield and bypass their checkpoint by alternative routes. more...

Prelude to Apocalypse (August 28, 2006) - Contrary to what is now the accepted wisdom in the media, Hezb’allah in its recent offensive against Israel neither “badly bloodied the Israel Defense Force,” nor “fought it to a standstill” in Southern Lebanon. In fact, the opposite is the case. By any legitimate measure Hezb’allah was handed a resounding military defeat by the IDF in the recent fighting, and while the cancer that is Hezb’allah was not cured by Israel’s soldiers, it was put into remission. Hezb’allah is not your father’s terrorist organization. This is not a group of loosely affiliated cells of would-be hijackers or suicide bombers. Hezb’allah is a terrorist army, trained like an army, organized like an army, funded and equipped like an army, with one glaring difference. The main use of its arsenal was terror aimed at Israel’s civilian population while hiding behind Lebanon’s civilian population. Its intent was to cause maximum civilian casualties amongst both. This was not by accident. This was by design. This was Hezb’allah’s war, planned and prepared for six years, funded by close to a billion dollars by Iran, aided by Syria. One of the great benefits to the West to come out of this war (if they choose not to turn a blind eye to it) is the certain knowledge that Hezb’allah is Iran’s terrorist operational arm. It is the terrorist extension of Iran’s expressed foreign policy. It is not a coincidence that Hezb’allah launched its totally unprovoked attack across Israel’s internationally recognized border, killing and kidnapping Israeli soldiers and dragging Lebanon and Israel into a war which neither one wanted at exactly the moment when the international community had issued its ultimatum to Iran. That ultimatum was: “Cease your efforts to develop nuclear weapons or face the sanctions of the International Community.” Iran’s response was Hezb’allah’s war. Much has been made, and rightly so, of the arsenal of some 15,000 short, medium and longer range rockets which Hezb’allah stockpiled for its offensive. What has gone largely unmentioned is the equally impressive number of anti-tank weapons Hezb’allah not only acquired but deployed throughout its system of fortresses, strongholds in literally every village in Southern Lebanon. Hezb’allah’s spin was that it built this Siegfried Line-like series of fortifications to defend Southern Lebanon from an Israeli invasion. The truth is both Hezb’allah and everyone else in the world knew perfectly well that when Israel left every centimeter of Lebanese soil in 2000, it did so with the intent never to return. It not only had no designs on Southern Lebanon, it dreaded doing so.

Meteor's Massive Sonic Boom Startles N. Zealanders (September 12, 2006) - Residents in Christchurch on the South Island said that the huge noise rattled their houses and made the ground shake. Some witnesses described a bright streak of light in the sky. The likely cause was a "very low" travelling meteor, a meteorological official said. "I saw the end of it," Matthew Miller, who was working south of Christchurch, told local radio. "It was quite big and bright and it was just shooting across the sky, then the light went out." The boom shook buildings and windows across central parts of the South Island. "It started off with a little boom then a real massive boom. And I mean massive - like the daddy of all booms," Christchurch resident Kevin Graham told the New Zealand Press Association. "I ran outside because I thought my place was going to collapse as well," he said. A spokesman for Christchurch emergency services said they were flooded with calls just after the boom, which occurred at 1453 local time (0253 GMT) on Tuesday. Alan Gilmore of the Mt John Observatory said the meteor was probably between the size of a baseball and a basketball. more...

The Age of Horrorism — An Extraordinary Perspective of How Islam Extremists View the U.S. and the World (September 10, 2006) - On the eve of the fifth anniversary of 9/11, one of Britain's most celebrated and original writers analyses - and abhors - the rise of extreme Islamism. In a penetrating and wide-ranging essay he offers a trenchant critique of the grotesque creed and questions the West's faltering response to this eruption of evil. more...

Scientists Watch Volcanic Bulge on Oregon's South Sister (September 10, 2006) - For a decade or so a volcanic bulge has been pushing up over 150 square miles near the South Sister, at perhaps an inch a year. Here magma has pushed up the ground, has been rising an inch or so a year since about 1997, a rise invisible to the naked eye. It began to slow last year, but scientists still watch the area, which has some of the more active magma in the Cascades. The bulge near the 10,358-foot mountain is the only rising ground along the Cascade range, said Dan Dzurisin, a geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey's Cascade Volcano Observatory in Vancouver, Wash. "What we think is there is a place where magma is slowly rising from deeper in the Earth," he said. "It's accumulating there, and it's inflating or causing the rocks around it to be pushed aside." It could go on or some time or be early signs of a possible eruption. more...

Another Volcano Rumbles — Alert Level Raised (September 10, 2006) - Scientists have raised the alert level at a rumbling volcano on Indonesia's Sumatra island after it showed signs of increased activity, but a major eruption is not imminent, an official said Sunday. Sensors on the slopes of Mount Talang in west Sumatra picked up increased volcanic activity and a buildup of gases, but the mountain did not send debris or lava down its slopes, said Dalipa Marjusi, an official at a monitoring post. "There is a possibility of a major eruption, but it is not imminent," he said. The 2,800-meter (9,186-foot) mountain was spewing brownish smoke some 250 meters (820 feet) into the air on Sunday, after the alert was raised to the second-highest level a day earlier, but nearby towns and villages were in no danger, Marjusi said. more...

Europe's Largest Volcano Erupting (September 9, 2006) - During the night between Wednesday and Thursday lava reached the base of the crater and overflowed, heading towards the desert lands of Bove Valley. As of Friday the lava front was at an altitude of 9,350 feet, and experts have advised that the activity poses no threat to people or houses. The eruption is associated with lava explosions, which have been throwing incandescent material out of the crater.

The Gray Ooze That Ate the Indonesian Villages (September 7, 2006) - For more than three months, the hot, noxious goop has spewed up through a crack in the earth at a natural-gas exploration site, swamping everything in its path. The expanding, surreal gray lake with the stench of rotten eggs has enveloped more than 10 square miles of land in eastern Java, Indonesia's most densely populated island. The flow has forced 8,000 to 10,000 people from their homes, engulfed about a dozen factories, contaminated fish farms and intermittently closed a major highway. Confusion has reigned over how to stop it. An effort to drill a series of relief wells was slow to begin and has thus far failed. With the mud continuing to gush, emergency crews have scrambled to put up earthen barriers to contain and redirect the flow away from villages. Some of the dams already have been breached, and officials are running out of space. In a country reeling from a string of natural disasters, this man-made fiasco has thrown a fresh, harsh light on an overwhelmed government struggling to counter accusations of corruption and ineptitude. more...

Javier Solana and the End Times (September 6, 2006) - THE HOLY BIBLE makes it clear that no one knows for sure the hour or the day of Christ's return in the End Times, but the current convergence of events may be one of the signs we are in the latter days. Relevant to this, one might take note of the activities of Javier Solana de Madariaga of Spain, whom I recently described in Part 2 of a NewsWithViews column about the Dialectic. Solana's grandfather was Salvador de Madariaga, who was chief of the League of Nations' Disarmament Section, Spanish Ambassador to the U.S., and militated for a united and integrated Europe. As previously indicated, Rhodes scholars Bill Clinton, Strobe Talbott, and Richard Gardner were largely responsible for Solana's appointment as head of NATO in 1995. Currently, he is Secretary-General of the Council of the European Union (EU), and responsible for coordinating its military and foreign policy as well. On November 20, 1999, he also became Secretary-General of the Council of the Western European Union (WEU). According to attorney Constance Cumbey, an expert on Solana, the EU was pushed by the World Federalists beginning in the late 1940s as part of a movement toward regionalization leading to a world government. President Clinton in 1993 wrote a letter to the World Federalist Association supporting world government (see letter here). And on October 17, 1997, he stated to reporters in Buenos Aires: "What I'm trying to do is to promote a process of reorganization of the world so that human beings are organized in a way that takes advantage of the new opportunities of this era....If we can prove that you can merge integrated economies and integrated democracies, then we'll be more likely to build a global system of this kind." more...
