Alliance of Civilizations (AOC) 2010 (September 27, 2006) - The more I learn about the Alliance of Civilizations (AOC), the more serious I feel the need for us to get the information out. This morning I had an email waiting with more information. It turns out that the AOC is endorsed by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). Since the US is a signatory to the OSCE, it makes the US "politically" bound to enforce the AOC's political/religious agenda when it becomes fully operational in 2010. There has been some confusion on the wordage used for the the AOC's proposed starting date. So, let's take a look at page 46 of the document.

1. Time frame: 2009- 2019, starting and ending on 21 September, the International Day of Peace. That launching date would give 12 months to prepare and promote a final proposal and to win political support from member states, in order to present the corresponding project of resolution to the General Assembly in its 62nd session (September 2007), with another 24 months for formal preparatory activities. The Decade would then overlap by only one year with the ongoing Decade for a Culture of Peace, and could learn from that experience AOC Report (pdf).

The key to understanding the above words is knowing the term of the UN's Decade for a Culture of Peace (DCP), since the start of the AOC is to "overlap" the DCP by one year and allow an additional 12 months to prepare. It turns our the DCP is from 2001 to 2010 Read about it here. That means the AOC is to be fully operational in 2010. Evidently, the 2007 date is for presenting the necessary resolution to the Security Council. This brings up another interesting question. Could this UN resolution set the stage politically for the resolving of that final issue -- the Temple Mount? Poll: Two Thirds of Palestinians Find Hizbullah Tactics 'Attractive' (September 27, 2006) - The tactics employed by Hizbullah against Israel provide an "attractive model" for Palestinians' armed resistance, according to a poll of Israeli and Palestinian public opinion conducted by the Harry S. Truman Research Institute for the Advancement of Peace at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research in Ramallah. According to the poll, which was conducted last week, nearly two-thirds of Palestinians (63%) agree that Palestinians should emulate Hizbullah by firing rockets at Israeli cities, compared to 35% who disagreed. Similar levels of support for copying Hizbullah's methods were reported in July 2000, following Israel's evacuation of Southern Lebanon (65% of the Palestinians supported it then, with 27% where opposed). The latest poll also showed that a majority of Palestinians (57%) supports attacks against Israeli civilians inside the Green Line. Another 75% of Palestinians support the kidnapping of Israel Defense Forces [IDF] soldiers to be exchanged for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel. Despite these militant views in the aftermath of the war in Lebanon, 77% of Palestinians support a cease-fire with Israel, and 74% believe that Palestinians cannot rely solely on armed struggle and must reach a political settlement with Israel. Among Israelis polled, 67% support negotiations with a Palestinian Authority unity government that includes Hamas. Even with a Hamas government that does not include Fatah, 56% of Israelis support and 43% oppose such talks. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with 1,270 Palestinian adults in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip and telephone interviews were conducted with representative samples of 500 Israeli Jews and 401 Israeli Arabs. A restructured UN with a new religious element is exactly what the UN's new Alliance of Civilizations (AOC) is all about -- creating a religious dimension within the UN. A primary purpose for the AOC is to fight all forms of religious fundamentalism See 1st pdf here. Another AOC report even discusses the importance of symbols and calls for the creation -- in as many cities as possible -- of temples and houses of religions (plural). And, it calls for the AOC to be fully operational in 2010 -- the middle of the coming seven-year period See 2nd pdf here. And, if all of this is not enough to convince us, the events in the UN are also connected to Recommendation 666. You see, the AOC was introduced to the UN by Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. Zapatero is a member of the same Spanish Socialist Party as is Javier Solana -- the man who negotiated the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership for Peace (a covenant with many) and implemented the elements of Recommendation 666 into the EU. Included in these elements was --besides providing his new Office emergency powers -- the so-called CIMI concept. CIMIC stands for Civilian Military Cooperation. And, the CIMIC concept is at the very heart of Spain's AOC. The stated goal of the AOC is to combine civilian, government and UN agencies into one powerful new entity in which to fight the global war against terror and united civilizations. In other words, in the AOC the important elements of Recommendation 666 are going global. And, as I've been pointing out, Spain will hold the EU's rotating presidency during the EU's possibly significant June summit in 2010. There is clearly an arms infrastructure there in Southern Lebanon and unarmed troops acting as peacekeepers in Lebanon wouldn't have far to go to get their weapons they've been stockpiling in these bunkers. It's about 130 miles from the border to Jerusalem. In less than a day troops could rush Jerusalem, but as we know from prophecy, God will wipe them out. Researcher: Temple treasure is in West Bank (September 26, 2006) - Where are the treasures of the Temple? A British archeologist is arguing that despite the claims that the treasures of the Temple are in the vaults of the Vatican, they are actually located in their original place – the Holy Land. The London Times reported that Dr. Sean Kingsley, an expert on the archeology of the Holy Land, claims that he found a series of treasures, including silver trumpets, golden candlesticks, and other jewelry, which were a part of the a cargo shipment that was headed for Rome after the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE. According to him, his study is based on historical writings of Josephus from the first century CE and on other historical writings from that era. After decades of searching and probing the holy scriptures, the archeologist reached the conclusion that the treasure was taken out of Rome in the fifth century CE. He discovered that it was transported to Carthage, a city-state near Tunisia which became an empire that controlled North Africa and the Mediterranean, and to Constantinople (Turkey) and Algeria. The treasures were then returned to Jerusalem and hidden under a monastery. Kingsley explained that during the 1990s Israeli and Vatican officials confronted each other on the issue of location of these treasures. Israel even claimed that the Pope was hiding them in Rome. Al-Qaeda loosing foothold in Iraq; civil war on horizon: UN (September 27, 2006) - Osama bin Laden's Al-Qaeda terrorist network is losing foothold in Iraq, unable to send new insurgents into the country in the last few months while a civil war looms, a UN Security Council report said Wednesday. As Iraq continues to slide towards civil war, al-Qaeda may paradoxically see more losses than gains,' the report prepared by council members said. The report said intelligence provided by several security agencies showed that 'fewer foreign fighters' have been killed in the last months, suggesting that the flow of insurgents to Iraq has slackened. 'Certainly, on return to their homelands, some fighters have expressed their dissatisfaction that on arrival in Iraq, they were asked to kill fellow Muslims rather than foreign soldiers, or even told that there was no role for them except as suicide bombers,' the report said. It said the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who was killed by US troops earlier this year, 'while a significant blow, may not have been a totally unwelcome to the al-Qaeda leadership.' more... | America |
Global Recommendation 666 Part 1 Fulfilled Prophecy (September 23, 2006) - As the pieces came together I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It appears that Recommendation 666 may be going global! I knew Javier Solana's possible connection to the UN's new Alliance of Civilizations (AOC). If you recall, the UN initiative was the idea of Solana's fellow Spanish Socialist Party member, Spain's Prime Minister, Jose Luis Zapatero. And, I also knew from my research that the AOC had signs of being Solana's 1995 Barcelona Process going global. But, I never dreamed that there was a Recommendation 666 connection. As I said before, Recommendation 666 may also be going global. In order to explain, let's first look at today's news. Yesterday former president Bill Clinton's Global Initiative held a conference and one of the speakers was Javier Solana. And, it was something Solana said that opened my eyes. Solana further said: "The divide that persists in the world is more profound than we think, and we better be aware of that. It's not getting smaller, but growing. He also warned listeners that Muslims should not be provoked, even for the sake of free speech and open thought." In other words, Solana believes the time for freedom of speech and thought is over. And, Solana also believes in creating a global police state through the use of the CIMIC concept he first introduced to the European Union when implementing his 10-nation Western European Union's (WEU) Assembly Recommendation 666. Global Recommendation 666 Part 2 Fulfilled Prophecy (September 25, 2006) - As it was back in December of 2000, once again it took awhile before the implications of certain events and their connection with the 10-nation Western European Union's (WEU) Assembly Recommendation 666 to become apparent. Let me try to explain. As students of the subject know, much of Bible prophecy has been given in image form. This being the case, it's import for us to know what these strange images of beasts with multiple heads and horns mean. From the O.T. book of Daniel we learn that God uses images to describe the kings and kingdoms that oppose His earthly people and purpose. In other words, God sees godless kings and their kingdoms as dangerous beast that need to be restrained. And, throughout history God has used different methods of restraint. But, in the time of the end, the Bible tells us God's restraining influence will be removed to allow Daniel's fourth beast empire to reappear and, for a short time, to devour God's people. At the end of this short period, Jesus will return, put an end to the beast kingdom, and set up His earthly kingdom of righteousness. In Revelation chapter 12 we see God combining His key elements of prophecy all together in three images -- that of a woman, the woman's child and a great, seven-headed dragon. It's widely believed that the woman represents national Israel, the child Jesus and the dragon satan. However, in my study of prophecy, I've come to believe there may be a few more things we should add... continued detail in link ...it was while I was wondering about the prophetic implications of the events that I had witnessed in Europe -- the rise of 10 nation Western European Union, the new Office of High Representative, and the making of the WEU the military arm of the European Union, that I discovered that all these events were connected to -- and possibly confirmed by -- the number 666. In these last few days I had the same experience while witnessing another event with possible prophetic implications. But, this time the number 666 is connected to -- and may be confirming -- the rise of the dragon's tail, not its head. You see, the UN's Alliance of Civilizations (AOC) is a combination of secular and apostate religious world leaders coming together to fight all forms of religious extremism and fundamentalism, and bring peace and safety to the world. The goal is to have the AOC begin in September 2009 with an additional 12 months to prepare. Christianity is considered extremist because it holds that Christ is the only way to salvation. Kind of backwards from the tolerance they profess now, but even without the suicide bombings and the like as Islam has, our unshakeable stance on Christ's divinity will not serve us well in the world. Gay Parade 10th November, Anniversary of "Krystalnacht" By Ron Ross , BFP News (September 20, 2006) - Gay rights groups, police, the Jerusalem Municipality have agreed to hold the gay parade in Jerusalem on November 10 this year. The agreement was made on Monday [September 18] after talks, which lasted three hours. Israel’s extremist right wing groups have said, "There will be a holy war against this event." There is a sensitivity already surrounding November 10. On that day in 1938, Reinhardt Heydrich of the Gestapo issued the orders which resulted in Krystalnacht. Adolph Hitler ordered a seven-day campaign of terror against the Jews in Germany to be organized by Himmler and the SS. On the tenth of November, the campaign started. The Nazis destroyed 10,000 shops owned by Jews, and their contents were stolen. Homes and synagogues were set on fire and left to burn. The fire brigades showed their loyalty to Hitler by assuming that the buildings would burn down anyway, so why try to prevent it? A huge amount of damage was done to Jewish property, but the Jewish community was ordered to pay a one billion mark fine to pay for the eventual clean-up. Jews were forced to scrub the streets clean. Also on this day in 1975, following a conference in Mexico, the UN General Assembly approved a resolution–supported by Arab, African and Soviet bloc states–asserting that Zionism is racism. The resolution passed 72 to 35 with 32 abstentions. It evoked a memorable speech from the United States representative to the UN, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, who said, "The United States rises to declare before the General Assembly of the United Nations and before the world that it does not acknowledge, it will not abide by, it will never acquiesce in this infamous act." The "Zionist is Racism" resolution became the justification for the establishment of new settlements in the West Bank and stymied attempts to further a negotiated solution. In 1991, following the collapse of the apartheid regime in South Africa and of the former Soviet Bloc, and against the background of the war against Saddam Hussein, this resolution was repealed. However, the same sentiment surfaced again at the Durban conference in South Africa in the summer of 2001.

Vatican opens pre-WWII archives (September 18, 2006) - The Vatican has opened to scholars and historians part of its vast collection of archives. The section being opened covers the rise of Mussolini and Hitler and the run-up to the World War II. It dates from the reign of Pope Pius XI, who was pope from 1922 until just before the outbreak of war in 1939. Details of the Vatican's relations with Germany's Adolf Hitler and Italy's Benito Mussolini are expected to be of great interest to scholars. The Vatican houses one of the world's most important historical archives, the so-called "secret archive" which contains some 2m documents dating back up to 1,000 years. They are kept for safety mainly in underground fireproof bunkers and storerooms placed along some 50 linear miles (80.4km) of shelving. Periodically the pope decides to open to scrutiny by scholars and professional historians a new treasure house of documents. The latest release covers the years when no less than four notorious dictators came to power - Benito Mussolini in Italy, Joseph Stalin in Russia, Adolf Hitler in Germany and Francisco Franco in Spain. Troubled Schools are Getting Help From Churches (September 13, 2006) - In this era when liberal legal groups are endlessly suing to keep the church out of public schools, principals in Texas are begging for churches to adopt their schools for the sake of the students. The program is now going national. It began 18 years ago, when the principal of a Dallas high school contacted Dr. Tony Evans, senior pastor at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, and asked for help. The school was riddled with gang activity, truancy, delinquency and poor academic performance. Oak Cliff agreed to adopt the school. "We began to provide mentoring, tutoring and family support services for those students," Evans told CitizenLink. "Grades went up, delinquency went down and stability entered the school." The principal of that school was later promoted to head of the district and wanted to see all 18 high schools achieve the same success. "Eighteen schools then became 64 schools, because one principal talked to another principal, and they wanted us to adopt their schools," Evans said. "And we had the same results." As interest grew, it became clear a structured program was needed. Thus was born the National Church Adopt-a-School Initiative. "What we did was develop a manual to show other churches how they could adopt a school in their community and turn it around and use it to impact the whole community," Evans said. "Because when a church adopts a school, and the school has kids, and the kids have parents — that's church, school and family — that's the hub of a community. Tortured screams ring out as Iraqis take over Abu Ghraib (September 10, 2006) - The notorious Abu Ghraib prison in Baghdad is at the centre of fresh abuse allegations just a week after it was handed over to Iraqi authorities, with claims that inmates are being tortured by their new captors. Staff at the jail say the Iraqi authorities have moved dozens of terrorist suspects into Abu Ghraib from the controversial Interior Ministry detention centre in Jadriyah, where United States troops last year discovered 169 prisoners who had been tortured and starved. An independent witness who went into Abu Ghraib this week told The Sunday Telegraph that screams were coming from the cell blocks housing the terrorist suspects. Prisoners released from the jail this week spoke of routine torture of terrorism suspects and on Wednesday, 27 prisoners were hanged in the first mass execution since the overthrow of Saddam Hussein's regime. Conditions in the rest of the jail were grim, with an overwhelming stench of excrement, prisoners crammed into cells for all but 20 minutes a day, food rations cut to just rice and water and no air conditioning. Some of the small number of prisoners who remained in the jail after the Americans left said they had pleaded to go with their departing captors, rather than be left in the hands of Iraqi guards. "The Americans were better than the Iraqis. U.S. And Israel Get Tough On Syria (September 27, 2006) - Just days after Syrian President Bashar Assad made an ostensible peace overture to Israel, both Jerusalem and Washington came down hard on Damascus Tuesday for continuing to support extremism. Israeli Defense Minister Amir Peretz told a forum of peace organizations in Tel Aviv that Assad "communicates double messages." Peretz said Israel cannot "ignore threats of war, and we will deploy our forces according to the reality and the threats." Assad told the German magazine Der Spiegel last week that "Syria wants peace with Israel," but is prepared for war after decades of trying to reach a settlement have failed to produce peace on Damascus' terms. Later in the day, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal that the international community is "going to have to start looking at further sanctions on Syria if it is to continue on the path it's currently on." "I think that the Syrians look as if they've made their choice and their choice is to associate with extremist forces in Iran," said Rice, who believes that garnering support for increased sanctions will be made increasingly easy "as Syria continues to show its stripes and isolate itself." Syria and Iran are believed to be in close collaboration, particularly in the financing, supplying and guiding of Lebanon's Hezbollah terrorist organization in its conflict with Israel. Meanwhile, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem told the U.N. General Assembly Tuesday that the Middle East's woes are the direct result of American policies toward the Arabs and Washington's unrestricted support of Israel. "We all end up paying the price when the decision makers in Washington believe that they know better, and are in a better position to understand and grasp the needs and circumstances of the Arabs," Moallem said. They're aligned with Iran and the rest of the Muslim world against Israel and her supporters. They speak out of both sides of their mouth because they're liars trying to bide time until they're ready to attack. It looks like the tensions are building up and if Syria does something, or if Israel pre-emptively attacks Damascus, we could see the fulfillment of Damascus being a desolate ruin. Sun's Activity Increased in Past Century, Study Confirms (September 26, 2006) - The energy output from the Sun has increased significantly during the 20th century, according to a new study. Many studies have attempted to determine whether there is an upward trend in the average magnitude of sunspots and solar flares over time, but few firm conclusions have been reached. Now, an international team of researchers led by Ilya Usoskin of the Sodankylä Geophysical Observatory at the University of Oulu, Finland, may have the answer. They examined meteorites that had fallen to Earth over the past 240 years. By analyzing the amount of titanium 44, a radioactive isotope, the team found a significant increase in the Sun's radioactive output during the 20th century. Over the past few decades, however, they found the solar activity has stabilized at this higher-than-historic level. Prior research relied on measurements of certain radioactive elements within tree rings and in the ice sheets covering Greenland and Antarctica, which can be altered by terrestrial processes, not just by solar activity. The isotope measured in the new study is not affected by conditions on Earth. Documents disclose 'shadow government' (September 26, 2006) - Government documents released by a Freedom of Information Act request reveal the Bush administration is running a "shadow government" with Mexico and Canada in which the U.S. is crafting a broad range of policy in conjunction with its neighbors to the north and south, asserts WND columnist and author Jerome R. Corsi. The documents, a total of about 1,000 pages, are among the first to be released to Corsi through his FOIA request to the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America, or SPP, which describes itself as an initiative "to increase security and to enhance prosperity among the three countries through greater cooperation." "The documents clearly reveal that SPP, working within the U.S. Department of Commerce, is far advanced in putting together a new regional infrastructure, creating a 'shadow' trilateral bureaucracy with Mexico and Canada that is aggressively rewriting a wide range of U.S. administrative law, all without congressional oversight or public disclosure," Corsi said. Among the initial discoveries, said Corsi, is the existence of an internal Intranet website that never has been revealed to Congress or the public. "This private internal website," he claims, "undoubtedly contains a wealth of documentation that the FOIA request has so far intentionally excluded." Corsi told WND the documents reveal hundreds of internal meetings, memoranda of understanding and other referenced agreements that have not been disclosed. Russia to deliver 80 tons of fuel to Iran NPP - Atomstroiexport (September 26, 2006) - Russia and Iran signed Tuesday a supplementary agreement on the delivery of 80 metric tons of nuclear fuel to a nuclear power plant in southern Iran in March 2007, the head of Russia's nuclear exporter said. Russia is helping Iran build the plant at Bushehr, 400 kilometers (250 miles) southwest of the capital, Tehran. The NPP is being constructed under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN's nuclear watchdog. Sergei Shmatko, the head of Atomstroiexport, Russia's nuclear power equipment and service export monopoly, said the supplementary agreement also stipulated a date for the plant's commissioning. "We have signed a supplementary agreement to the contract for the construction of the Bushehr NPP," Shmatko said. "The agreement stipulates that the date for the power generating launch will be November 2007, and that the plant will be commissioned in September 2007." Last Monday, Sergei Kiriyenko, the head of Russia's Federal Nuclear Power Agency, told journalists on the sidelines of the 50th International Atomic Energy Agency General Conference in Vienna that the Bushehr NPP would be launched in November 2007. "The Bushehr nuclear power plant will be commissioned in September 2007, and the power generating launch will take place in November 2007," Kiriyenko said. Man Arrested for Blowing Shofar at Western Wall (September 26, 2006) - The incident occurred around 7:30 in the morning, at the northern-most section of the accessible Western Wall - a little-known area called the Kotel HaKatan, the Small Wall. It is considered to have extra sanctity, as it stands opposite the presumed spot of the Holy of Holies of the Beit HaMikdash. Yesterday morning (Sunday), a group of some 10 men and two women gathered at the site, as they have done for several years on Rosh HaShanah, for early-morning prayers. The holiday prayers feature the blowing of the shofar (ram's horn) at several different times. Towards the end of the first shofar sounding, a Border Guard policeman came in, made an unclear motion with his hand as if to ask what was going on, and then left. He said nothing. Shortly afterwards, Eliyahu K., the 20-year-old prayer leader, blew the shofar a second time, in the midst of his silent prayer (in accordance with Sephardic custom). Policemen came in once again and began trying to pull him away. However, Eliyahu was in the midst of reciting the Amidah - a long passage during which one must stand in one place without moving - and he therefore did not move. Al-Qaida recons nuke storage site (September 24, 2006) - Two al-Qaida operatives visited the world's most accessible nuclear facility, where more than two tons of highly enriched uranium and weapons-grade plutonium are stored behind a rusty barb-wire fence protected by a handful of guards with light weapons, MI6 agents have learned. An intelligence report obtained by Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin described the facility as "the dream target for terrorists." The view is shared by Michael Durst, a senior manager at the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency. "The site is top of our global priority list of unsecured uranium sources," said Durst. "At present it is easily accessible to an organized attack." Once a jewel in the former Soviet arsenal, the National Science Institute at Vinca, 10 miles south of the Serbian capital, Belgrade, was closed in 1984 and its reactor switched off. Since then, the 48-acre site has steadily fallen into decay. Last week, Durst said: "Vinca is unique in the amount of uranium stored within the facility, over two tons. About 30 percent of this is now leaking. The remaining caretaker staff at the institute are doing their best to deal with the situation. But they are poorly paid and our concern is that some employees could be tempted to sell some of the material themselves or allow terrorists access to it. This period of time has also been called by many other names, including the Last Hour, the Apocalypse, the Great Tribulation, etc. Both religions have specific expectations of what will happen, and there are many similarities between the two beliefs. Some similarities include the expected appearance of natural disasters and calamities, an Antichrist, the coming of Jesus, etc. The striking similarities provide a parallelism between the two religions on this topic. However, closer examination also reveals striking significant differences. The result is what is known as anti-parallelism, whereby many significant parallel points are actually opposite in nature. The diametrically opposed viewpoint from which a Muslim and a Christian view the same event contributes to this anti-parallelism. For example, it is easy to confuse the Antichrist in Islam with the Antichrist described in the Bible, because first of all, the meaning of Christ is not the same in the two beliefs. Chinese Flag Stirs Quincy Controversy (September 20, 2006) - John Wu Lin fled China’s communist regime a long time ago and reminders of his past are painful. So when Lin was walking to the Wollaston T station the other day and saw a People’s Republic of China flag flying prominently next to an American flag atop a building in Wollaston Center, he was shocked. ‘‘That flag is not about Chinese heritage or our culture - it’s about a government that many of us tried to escape,’’ said Lin, who has lived in the city for 15 years. Both the flag and a red, lighted sign heralding a new Asian American civic group will be removed, say city officials, who have received dozens of complaints from residents and passers-by. The sign, with 2-foot tall letters in Chinese and English, does not meet local sign regulations, officials said. And a permit is needed to fly a flag in the city other than an American flag. For some, the flag is more offensive than the sign. Stephen Long of North Quincy said it isn’t right to hang a communist flag in the middle of the city. ‘‘Who cares about the sign - it has nothing to do with that,’’ said Long, who said he is a Vietnam-era Marine veteran. ‘‘That’s nothing unusual. NAFTA Super Highway Map (September 20, 2006) - The map's travel corridors show the desired routes of the new Super Highways as proposed by the North American Forum on Integration (NAFI) — a group of wealthy industrialists, academics, and politicians whose aim it is to break down barriers to the North American Union. The main actors in NAFI are members of the Council on Foreign Relations or related organizations based in Mexico and Canada. NAFI, whose first objective is to make "the public and decision-makers aware of the challenges of economic and political integration between the three NAFTA countries," is following the country-integration plan of the European Union. (Emphasis added.) That plan used the idea of "free trade" to make steps toward integration sound appealing to the public. Is It Just Me, or Are People Really Getting Meaner? (September 22, 2006) - Is it just me, or are people really getting meaner? It seems that much of what I hear and read these days indicates that people's actions and attitudes are increasingly rude, crude, and downright cantankerous. Has it always been this way? If it was, I don't remember it. Granted, there is much to be upset about nowadays. People are being taxed out of their minds. Governmental meddling has never been more intrusive. Savings accounts are down. Indebtedness is up. Most newspaper headlines serve only to raise our blood pressure. Americans fear the IRS more than they do Osama bin Laden. Many Americans are working two and even three jobs just to make ends meet. Hollywood used to provide respite from day to day pressures. No more. All they do now is contribute to raising stress levels. Ditto for most major league sports. And when is the last time we could trust anything our congressman told us? Come to think of it, we can't trust much of anything anybody tells us. Egad! I'm getting angry just writing this column. However, is it really obligatory that we lose our warmth and compassion? Is everyone who disagrees with us really our enemy? Can we not remain truly uncompromising for a principle without becoming a raving, sadistic madman? Furthermore, it doesn't seem to matter in what "camp" one finds oneself. The story is the same. Conservatives can be just as mean-spirited as liberals and vice versa. Christians just as contemptuous as atheists. In fact, I know unbelievers whom I would far rather be around than some believers. more... Is There Anybody Out There? How the Men From the Ministry Hid the Hunt for UFOs (September 25, 2006) - The Ministry of Defence went to extraordinary lengths to cover up its true involvement in investigating UFOs, according to secret documents revealed under the Freedom of Information Act. The files show that officials attempted to expunge information from documents released to the Public Records Office under the "30-year rule" that would have revealed the extent of the MoD's interest in UFO sightings. In particular, the ministry wanted to cover up the operation of a secret unit dedicated to UFO investigations within the Defence Intelligence Staff. UFO conspiracy theorists have likened the unit, called DI55, to a sort of "Men in Black" agency for defending the Earth against invasion but the released documents show this is far from the truth. One 1995 memo from DI55 to the MoD's public "UFO desk" said: "I have several books at home that describe our supposed role of 'defender of the Earth against the alien menace' - it is light years from the truth!" The files were made public following FOI requests by David Clarke, a lecturer in journalism at Sheffield Hallam University and his colleague Andy Roberts. "These documents don't tell us anything about UFOs but they do show how desperate the MoD have been to conceal the interest which the intelligence services had in the subject," said Dr Clarke.
Maine Hit with NINE Earthquakes (September 22, 2006) - Mount Desert Island residents awoke to the earth moving Friday, and the shaking didn't stop until several hours later. Monitors recorded five hours of earthquake activity with the biggest being a Magnitude 3.5 quake at 6:39 a.m. about one mile southwest of the middle of Bar Harbor, said John Ebel, director of Massachusetts' Weston Observatory. There were roughly nine additional temblors starting at 5:21 a.m. before the main quake and continuing through 10:20 a.m., Ebel said. The biggest quake was of a magnitude that could be felt miles away, he said. There were no reports of injuries or property damage. New England averages about one or two earthquakes that are above 3.5 Magnitude each year, Ebel said. Mount St. Helens Update (September 22, 2006) - Current status is Volcano Advisory (Alert Level 2 ) Aviation color code ORANGE : Growth of the new lava dome inside the crater of Mount St. Helens continues, accompanied by low rates of seismicity, low emissions of steam and volcanic gases, and minor production of ash. During such eruptions, changes in the level of activity can occur over days to months. The eruption could intensify suddenly or with little warning and produce explosions that cause hazardous conditions within several miles of the crater and farther downwind. Small lahars could suddenly descend the Toutle River if triggered by heavy rain or by interaction of hot rocks with snow and ice. Powerful Quake Hits Panay, Philippines (September 22, 2006) - A powerful earthquake measuring 6 on the Richter scale took place Friday morning near Panay, the Philippines. A statement issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Services Department said the earthquake occurred in east Panay, some 230km west of Cebu and 641km northeast of Malaysian Sandakan sea. A strong earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale also occurred near Santiago in Argentina and both earthquakes did not trigger tsunamis nor did they cause material or human losses.
