Ahmadinejad: Finish Israel off if it attacks

YNet News (Link) - Reuters (February 11, 2010)

Irans President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told his Syrian counterpart that Israel should be resisted and finished off if it launched military action in the region, state broadcaster IRIB reported on Thursday.

We have reliable information ... that the Zionist regime is after finding a way to compensate for its ridiculous defeats from the people of Gaza and Lebanons Hezbollah, he told Syrias Bashar al-Assad.

If the Zionist regime should repeat its mistakes and initiate a military operation, then it must be resisted with full force to put an end to it once and for all, Ahmadinejad said in the telephone conversation on Wednesday evening.

Ahmadinejad, who has often predicted the imminent demise of the Jewish state, said Iran would remain on the side of regional nations including Syria, Lebanon and Palestine.

The Islamic Republic does not recognize Israel, which it refers to as the Zionist regime. Israel sees Irans nuclear program as an existential threat.

On Monday Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki referred to Israel as a mad nation led by insane people.

In an interview to the al-Jazeera network, Mottaki said that the Islamic Republic was not taking the Jewish states threats to launch a military attack on its nuclear facilities seriously, but stressed that Tehran must be prepared for an Israeli attack.

According to the Iranian minister, The Zionist regime in the region is in its weakest position in three years. This is the first time we see this regime facing two different and important defeats in our region, and this is the seventh time the Israeli forces have tried to enter Lebanon and force a war on the country.

Isaiah 17:1-3; 9
The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap. The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid. The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts... In that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough, and an uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be desolation.

Its been my position for some time now that the sequence of events may unfold in the destruction of Damascus followed by a reaction by the forces described in Ezekiel 38 & 39 being brought with hooks in their jaws from the North to attack Israel. I believe the hooks in the jaws is the defense agreements that Syria, Turkey and Iran already have in place. If Israel were to attack Damascus, something they have threatened in the past and a possibility that is not too unlikely given the concentration of terrorist organizations in Damascus, then the alliances in place that are described by Ezekiel would have to come to their defense and attack Israel as reinforced in this story as well.

Another interesting perspective that may come before, or possibly trigger the Damascus fulfillment, is a recent article Psalms 83 Revisited by Jack Kinsella. I recommend checking that out too.
